Have you ever pulled a shirt from the dryer, only to discover that’s charged with static cling? Sure you have! While static cling doesn’t pose any threat to garments, it can make them difficult to wear. The positively charged garment will literally “stick” to other fabrics and garments, attracting debris and lint in the process. The good news is that you can eliminate static cling by performing one of the following techniques. Dryer Sheets Dryer sheets serve two basic purposes: to make clothes feel soft and fresh, and to eliminate static cling. The next time you get ready to do laundry, toss a dryer sheet into the clothes dryer. This is a quick, easy and inexpensive solution for static cling. Dryer sheets can be purchased for as little as a couple bucks for an entire box, making this a budget-friendly way to prevent static cling. Safety Pin A lesser-known technique for eliminating static cling involves hiding a metal safety pin within the garment itself. So, how exactly does this work? The metal works to discharge the electrical charge that would otherwise cause static cling. Rather than buildup up within the fibers of your garment, the electrical charge will dissipate through the safety pin. Just remember to place the safety pin in a discreet area where it’s not easily seen. Spray it Of course, another solution to eliminate static cling is to spray the garment with water immediately after removing it from the dryer. Water allows the electrical charge to dissipate, at which point the garment will no longer “cling” to other fabrics or items. Some people recommend using distilled...

When wearing jeans with boots, you have one of two different options available: you can place the bottom of your jeans over your boots, or you can tuck them inside your boots. There’s been a growing trend towards the latter option, as it offers a clean, stylish appearance that many women prefer. So, what’s the best way to tuck jeans into your boots? It’s important to note that not all jeans can be placed over the top of boots. If you are wearing skinny or straight-leg jeans, the bottom portion of the legs might be too tight, at which point you’ll have to tuck them into your boots. The good news, however, is that practically all cuts and styles of jeans can be tucked into boots. Whether the legs are straight, loose or somewhere in between, you can easily tuck them into your boots. There’s really no wrong way to tuck the bottom of your jeans into boots; however, many women prefer to create a “cuff” with their jeans first. To do this, flip the hem of each pant leg up about ankle height. This should be done using a single fold so there’s a minimal amount of denim protruding outwards. Next, fold them sideways to the denim is tighter around your ankles. Failure to fold the denim may result in your jeans being too baggy around the bottom, making it difficult to place them inside your boots. Once you’ve created a cuff with your jeans, pull your socks over them to the cuff in place. Because your socks will be hidden under the boots, it really doesn’t matter...

There’s been a growing trend towards the inexpensive clothes in recent years, highlighted by some of the nation’s largest retailers. Known as “fast fashion,” it allows consumers to purchase more clothes without breaking the bank. But what’s causing this trend? And how long will it last? According to a recent report published by American Apparel, the average U.S. adult will purchase roughly 70 new garments this year, up from just 40 in 1991 and 62 in 2012. Men and women alike are paying more attention to what they wear, diversifying their wardrobes while staying on top of the latest fashion trends. Of course, in order to remain stylish, Americans must invest heavily in new clothes, which is something that we’re seen more of. Here’s the kicker, though: many people are choosing inexpensive, readily available garments over premium garments. One possible reason for this trend may lie in the overseas retailer Primark, which as annual sales increase by 17% in 2014 from the year prior. Primark is constantly adding cheap, new garments to its lineup, offering a wide selection to its target demographic of 20-30 year olds. As noted by Jamie Merriman of Bernstein, consumers often choose Primark because it’s like the “Costco” of retail shopping, meaning they can purchase everything from clothes and shoes to groceries and household cleaning supplies. “Consumers shop at Primark differently than they shop at a lot of retailers,” says Bernstein’s Jamie Merriman. “It’s almost like shopping at a Costco,”—which sells buckets of peanuts and vats of detergent—“where you’re thinking about it in terms of volume.” Another reason why many consumers are choosing fast fashion...

Green is no longer a color that’s limited strictly to St. Patrick’s Day. There’s been a growing trend in the fashion world towards the use of green garments for both men and women. Why is green becoming so popular among in mainstream fashion? This is a question that we’re going to tackle in today’s blog post. One of the reasons why green is back in style is because it’s a semi-bold color that offers a delicate balance of class and boldness. It’s not quite as over-the-top as yellow or fire-orange, but it’s also not as dull as gray. Green is unique in the sense that it’s bold, yet still classy enough to wear as part of a formal outfit. Of course, this is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the benefits of wearing green. Another reason why green fashion is back has to do with the time of year. Green has largely been associated with the cool fall/autumn months, which is why retailers tend to release green-colored garments around this time. This is particularly true when speaking of men’s wear, some of which may include green button-up shirts, sweaters, vests, and even corduroy pants. But if you are going to wear green, there are a few things you should know. As noted in an article published by TheGuardian, it’s best for guys to limit the use of greens in a single outfit. There’s nothing wrong with wearing a green shirt or pants, but including too many different green garments in your outfit will leave you looking like a shrub. TheGuardian also recommends keeping your...

Denim jeans come in dozens of different styles and cuts, each of which has its own unique characteristics. Boot-cut, for instance, has a wider opening around the ankles, allowing the jeans to go over the wearer’s boots instead of clumping up at the top. Another popular type of jeans is slim-fit, which we’re going to discuss further in today’s blog post. Characteristics of Slim-Fit Jeans Slim-fit jeans (also known as skinny jeans) live up the name by featuring snug, tight fit through the legs and end with an opening at the ankle of 9-20 inches, depending in the size. Unlike drainpipe jeans which are straight throughout the leg, however, slim-fit jeans taper off so they look slimmer. The legs are often so slim, in fact, that manufacturers must add zippers to the bottom so the wearer can pull the jeans over his or her feet. If boot-cut jeans are on one spectrum of the denim wheel, slim-fit would be on the opposite end. This is due to the fact that slim-cut jeans feature a very narrow leg that tapers off towards the end, whereas boot-cut jeans are naturally wide and open even wider around the ankles. Benefits of Wearing Slim-Fit Jeans Why are so many men and women eager to jump aboard the slim-fit denim bandwagon? There are a number of factors attributing to the growing trend of slim-fit jeans, one of which is its ability to enhance a person’s natural body type. When you wear baggy, oversized jeans, it creates the dreaded “clothes hanger” effect in which your jeans appear to hang off your body. Such appearances are...
