Exploring the Different Ways to Dry Your Jeans

Jeans aren’t immune to the effects of dirt and debris. Like virtually all other garments, they require washing on a regular basis. You don’t have to necessarily wash them each time you wear them, but you will need to wash your jeans. Otherwise, they’ll develop stains and other superficial blemishes that lower their aesthetic value. After washing your jeans, though, you’ll need to dry them. So, what are some of the different ways that you can dry your jeans?

Use a Clothes Dryer

Not surprisingly, the most common method for drying jeans involves the use of a clothes dryer. Clothes dryers are large household appliances that spin garments around in a cylindrical drum while exposing them to hot air. The hot air causes moisture to evaporate out of the jeans, at which point it’s dispelled through a vent.

Using a clothes dryer is probably the easiest way to dry your jeans. It doesn’t require any manual labor on your behalf. Just place your wet jeans inside the drum and turn on the dryer. The clothes dryer will then spin your jeans around the drum while exposing them to hot air.

Clothes dryers have several settings, some of which include the following:

  • Low heat: Uses a minimal amount of heat to protect garments from heat-related damage.
  • Medium heat: Uses a medium amount of heat for a balanced combination of drying and protection against damage.
  • High heat: Uses the highest amount of heat for stronger drying performance but at the cost of increased wear and tear.
  • Tumble dry: Doesn’t use any heat and, instead, dries garments simply by spinning them around in a drum.

Use a Sweater Dryer

While you’re probably familiar with traditional clothes driers, there’s another device that you can use to dry your jeans: a sweater dryer. A sweater dryer is a special drying device that’s designed primarily for sweaters. However, there’s no rule stating that you must use it only with sweaters. A sweater dryer actually works well for jeans, assuming you know how to use it.

What is a sweater dryer exactly? A sweater dryer is a small drying device — typically made of plastic — that features pull-out trays. You can place a single pair of jeans on each tray. When you turn on the sweater dryer, it will blow air over each of the trays, thereby drying your jeans.

Using a sweater dryer overs several advantages over a traditional clothes dryers. First and foremost, it protects your jeans from damage. Your jeans won’t tumble or otherwise move around when placed on one of the drying trays. Instead, they’ll maintain their position without succumbing to damage. Second, using a sweater dryer is easy. All you have to do is place your jeans on one of the trays and turn the sweater dryer on. The only downside to using a sweater dryer is that it takes more time to completely dry your jeans than that of a traditional clothes dryer.

Hang Outdoors

You can always dry your jeans by hanging them on a line somewhere outside your home. Known as line drying, it’s the oldest drying method in the method. People have been line drying their clothes for centuries. It’s a simple and easy-to-perform drying method that works well for all types of garments, including jeans.

When you line dry your jeans outdoors, they’ll dry naturally from the fresh air and sunshine. The combination of fresh air and sunshine will force moisture to evaporate out of your jeans. It’s not exactly a fast drying method. Rather, it can take over an hour to line dry a single pair of jeans. Nonetheless, line drying your jeans outdoors will naturally eliminate moisture while leaving them smelling fresh in the process.

Hang Indoors

Another option to consider when drying your jeans is hanging them somewhere inside your home. Most people line dry their clothes outdoors because it allows them to take advantage of the fresh air and sunshine. Unfortunately, this isn’t an option if it’s raining. If the weather is bad, you won’t be able to line dry your jeans outdoors — at least not without getting them wet, which defeats the entire purpose of line drying. An alternative solution, however, is to line dry your jeans indoors.

How do you line dry jeans indoors? Well, you can always hang them somewhere in your bathroom. Assuming you have a bathroom with a shower curtain rod, you can toss your jeans over the rod so that they’ll slowly dry. For additional drying power, turn on the exhaust fan in your bathroom. The exhaust fan will pull the humid air out of your bathroom and release it outside your home.

Use a Hair Dryer

An unconventional, though still effective, way to dry your jeans is to use a hair dryer. It’s a fast, easy and non-invasive drying method. As you may know, a hair dryer is a device that’s designed to blow warm or hot air. It’s used primarily to dry a person’s hair. With that said, you can use a hair dryer for other purposes, such as drying your jeans.

After washing your jeans, place them on a flat surface where you can easily expose them to the hot air of a hair dryer. Next, plug in your hair dryer and turn it to the medium-heat setting. You can then slowly run the hair dryer over the surface of your jeans to dry them. Depending on just how wet your jeans are, it may take a few passes to completely dry them.

In Conclusion

Many people assume that using a clothes dryer is the only way they can dry their jeans. While using a clothes dryer is certainly an option, it’s not the only option from which you can choose. There are several other ways you can dry your jeans, such as line drying them outdoors, line drying them indoors, using a sweater dryer or using a hair dryer.
